Overcoming Anger

Since it is impossible to fulfill all our desires or to stop unwanted things from happening to us, we need to find a different way of relating to frustrating desires and unwanted occurrences. We need to practice patient acceptance, which requires the mindfulness of a peaceful mind.

The special breathing meditation we will learn in this course, will help us maintain a peaceful and happy mind. It will also allow us to respond to feelings of unhappiness that are beginning to arise in our mind, and to restore our mind to a peaceful and happy state. This meditation mounts the mantra of all the Buddhas, Om Ah Hum, upon our breath, with mental recitation. Most students find it easy to engage in this practice and incredibly beneficial.

This day course will include 4 guided opportunities to gain familiarity with this meditation. When we gain familiarity with this practice, which is based on the power of love and compassion for all living beings, we will find it easier to cope with difficult situations. Many practitioners find themselves engaging in this practice spontaneously throughout the day. Whenever we wish to experience a peaceful and happy mind, we can accomplish this wish by engaging in this practice. How wonderful!

Schedule: 

Session 1:  10 – 11:15 am

Break with snacks: 11:15 – 11:45 am

Session 2:  11:45 – 1 pm

Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before class to sign in and get settled. No Buddhist background or previous meditation experience required.

Steve Maddox

Steve is a long time Buddhist practitioner who is greatly admired for his heartfelt and informative teachings at Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center.
