Shelter from the Storm:
Teachings and Refuge Ceremony

Shelter from the storm, Buddhist Refuge, Mahayana Buddhism, meditation, vow ceremony, spiritual, world peace, inner peace, love, compassion, wisdom, patience, Kadampa tradition, Olympia Washington, Prayers, happiness

Saturday February 14
10:00 am - 1:00 pm

We are always seeking refuge from something- whether it is from conflict, illness, boredom, or loneliness. These temporary refuges give us temporary relief from various sufferings, but they do not offer long-lasting protection or peace. In contrast, taking refuge in the Three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha can give us the lasting protection that arises from the power of our own engagement with the practices of controlling our mind and growing a mind of compassion that benefits all living beings.

In the first session we will share teachings and meditation on Buddhist refuge practice – what refuge means, how it protects us, and various levels in which we can engage the Buddhist path.

This will be followed by the Mahayana Refuge Vow Ceremony, where we will have the chance to take refuge vows or simply gain inspiration on our spiritual journey.

Schedule:
Teaching  10 – 11:15 am
Break  11:15 – 11:45 am
